I recently came across a presentation that Dan Buettner gave at one of the TED conferences. In this presentation he spoke about Blue Zones and highlighted some principles of longevity. After years of research and study of these people who live in these “Blue Zones”, Dan has identified some common denominators that hold true among these cultures which I have in turn highlighted below.You can watch the video of the presentation that Dan gave at the TED event.

hypertensionToday I’m gonna be talking about “The Silent Killer”.

A couple of years ago our domestic worker got really sick and eventually died a result of high blood pressure. It was really sad because he had been around since we (my brother and sister) were kids and was basically part of the family. I was young at the time and did not understand the negative impact hypertension has on one’s health. That is why I am writing this post to make people sensitive to this silent killer which is known as hypertension.

A high percentage of adults all over the world have high blood pressure. These hypertensives are three times more likely to have a heart attack, five times more likely to develop heart failure, and eight times more likely to suffer a stroke than people with normal blood pressure.

Did you know that most successful people are known to have very high levels of energy. Since energy is the fuel with which everything is achieved, there seems to be a direct relationship between energy levels and levels of accomplishment. It is hard to imagine a tired, burned-out person achieving much in life. On the other hand, energetic, positive, forward-moving individuals seem to get and enjoy far more of the things life has to offer than does the average person.

We have been led to believe that there is basically one kind of energy, and we supposedly replenish this energy by sleeping at night, and during the day, we use it up again. It’s like we’re machines powered by batteries, and each night we recharge our batteries for seven or eight hours. However, there are some problems with this view of energy. The biggest problem is that it doesn’t deal with the fact that there are actually three different kinds of energy, each of which is necessary for maximum performance.
