I’ve been blogging for exactly a year this month and I’m so glad I stepped into the unknown. I must admit that I did not expect to be here one year down the road. It’s been an exciting journey exploring and learning new things,  as well as stepping out of my comfort zone by publishing content for the whole online world to see. I have enjoyed it thoroughly and have grown personally as a result. I’ve received some feedback from friends and family which has prompted me to clarify my intentions for this site, so here goes…

My tagline is: “Speaking To Others Really Matters”. Indeed, I have a passion for speaking started a few years ago. It’s always been my intention to cover all aspects relating to topics and themes which really matter to people in the mental, physical, social, and spiritual realms of life. This leaves a very broad scope for me to explore and tons of ideas with regards to content. This is a personal blog which means the content on this site is a part of me in that it stems from personal experience which represents and reflects my beliefs, values, insights, and perceptions.

So far I’ve been writing on a wide range of topics including work/career, productivity, inspiration, and health & wellness. My recent posts have been on social media (Twitter). It must seem like some of these topics just surface from out of the blue given the previous themes on this site. That is just me, I write about what triggers me at the time.

From now on, instead of doing a different post everyday on a new topic, I want to start taking one topic or theme, and go really deep into it for a few weeks or months. This is also how I want to organize my reading material and research: going deep into one field until I’ve exhausted it, then switch to something different while I try and integrate and reflect on what I’ve just learnt. Yes, I believe in lifelong learning and am a very big proponent of it. I will occasionally write on other topics and wonder around a bit, but generally I’d like to stick to one topic or theme until I’ve exhausted it. There will also be random posts from time to time on stuff that attracts my attention. Of course it will be about things that “really matter”.

As this blog continues to grow, it’s physical appearance will change to reflect the evolving content. So I will be changing things here and there as I see fit to improve the site.

You won’t always agree with my points of view which is expected. I do enjoy good, healthy debates which leads to new insights and ideas. There are a lot of gaps in my own understanding, so I really appreciate it when others help me fill some of them in. Therefore, this blog is a vehicle for my own personal growth. In time, I may post something which you find offensive. This is to be expected due to the size and demographic of the audience. Understand that it is my desire to challenge people and the nature of the topics.

I am kinda curious and take on a very experiential  view towards life. I love trying new things out and pushing myself to new limits. All this within reason of course. My core beliefs and values stem from the Bible and I try my best to live in line with biblical principles and values which keep me grounded.

At least for the foreseeable future, I intend to continue putting up content for free. I would also like to monetize this blog in order to support it and the various projects I have lined up in the future. I’m also interested in podcasting and putting up some video content. This will all come in time as the site grows.

I’m progressing nicely with my public speaking skills. I’ve been at it now for a couple of months, but I’m not at a professional level yet. Probably a few more years will do it. Still have a lot to learn, but I’m a fast learner and enjoy the challenge. A big advantage I have is that I have no fear of making a fool of myself in front of an audience, so I’ve been trying a variety of subjects and styles to see what works best. My next speaking engagement will be in a weeks time.

My motivation for blogging and doing what I do is very basic: to speak to others and share my thoughts on things that really matter. that’s my purpose and the fire that burns within me. I really don’t care about ego gratification or fame or fortune. They don’t possess the power to motivate me. Whether I win the jackpot or go broke, become publicly idolized or demonized…I’ll just keep doing the same thing. I don’t care about building a brand or a business because I see those things as a means to an end. My actions my indirectly coincide with those things from time to time, but if that happens, it’s merely coincidental. Change should be expected because I pursue personal growth and transformation with intense passion. This results in shifts in my personality which will affect my writing style over time.

That should about do it!

Question: Do you maintain a blog? If so, are you clear about your intentions for it?
